Pursuing your Passion amidst the Pandemic

Hello everyone, I know a lot of us had a hard time last year 2020 especially when the pandemic happened. A lot of people have encountered problems, there where many unemployed people wandering in the streets just to grab the opportunity they can get because there were to many problems we have faced since year 2020 has started. As a result of global crisis, a lot of people have been thinking, in what way they can provide to their families and how they can earn money. I'm sure many of us tried everything they could do just to earn money, they were some who make a home based business; just like my interviewee here for this blog.

I would like you all to meet Aimeren Chazz Entena, a grade 12 Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS) student in Malayan Colleges Laguna. Her online persona is called vahmpira or vee she is a non-binary gothic artist based in the Philippines that incorporates surrealism and gore within pastel or innocently themed paintings. Chazz, here nickname; also have won awards such as: Consecutive best in arts during k-10, a nationwide contest for poem making, and she have been featured in a content creator event for Free Fire Garena. Chazz have started making her artistic skills to a business, she started making commissions since in the middle of the pandemic, because, she have realized that she needs to start making money by herself and using her skills and talents in use, in a way that she can help her family and sustain her needs and wants. She also have realized that her parents are getting older as the time goes by, she said, that she should not be always relaying to her parents and she should be providing and helping their expenses everyday. Chazz said, "I should be doing what I want and pursue my passion even these hard times, because if we don't, we won't make any progress and we will have many regrets in the future. So, do what you love even though you're having a second thought if this will grow or not. In the end, it's you who decides."

I asked her some few questions, and here is her answer:

1. WHY DID YOU PURSUE YOUR PASSION?

"It was something i developed during childhood that served as my safe space, over time it grew from a simple hobby to something i’ve always wanted to pursue as a business and as my full time job. making art has always “felt right” in a way that i can't imagine doing anything else."

2. DID YOU EVER WONDER IF YOUR BUSINESS WILL GROW, KNOWING THAT IT IS HARD TO MAKE MONEY DURING THIS TIMES?

"There were definitely times that i thought my current set of skills wouldn’t be profitable especially in such a big market but i proved myself wrong in our current situation, graphic artists and illustrators are sought after more than before to create marketing ploys for companies that are scrambling around to make a profit."

3. WHAT CAN YOU TELL OR ADVICE TO EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO PURSUE THEIR PASSION?

"The only advice i can provide that i know would benefit everyone is to not rush your progress, that doesn’t mean we should be procrastinating, though. it simply means we shouldn’t be hard on ourselves if we can’t see any visible progress or if you feel stuck in where you are. enjoying art should always be a constant experience yet we should always challenge our set of skills. rest is as important as doing work, and i stand by that logic."
